Laco Crumbs: kosher and halal
Kosher breadcrumbs prepared in accordance with the Jewish food laws
Kosher foods comply with the Jewish food laws (kashrut). These stipulate the permitted types of meat, the rituals involved in the slaughter of animals for human consumption, the preparation of dishes, and the separation of specific types of foods. Pursuant to these laws bread, for example, may not contain milk products of fats from non-kosher animal species. Nor may Jews eat food prepared by Gentiles. Laco Crumbs began producing breadcrumbs under rabbinal supervision in 1985. These products are produced in collaboration with the Orthodox Union [link:ou.org], the largest association of Orthodox Jewish organisations in the USA.
Halal breadcrumbs
The Islamic word 'halal’ prescribes the actions and products that are permitted for Muslims. Guidelines for food lay down requirements for the slaughter of animals for consumption. All other types of food, such as vegetables, fruit and grains are permitted without processing: Halal Muslims wish, for example, (in analogy with kosher Jews) to receive guarantees that the grain used to produce breadcrumbs has not been modified with a pig gene*. Laco Crumbs, which received the requisite certification in 2005, observes all the prevailing regulations governing the production of halal breadcrumbs: we offer manufacturers breadcrumbs for use in products that are of interest to a broader target audience.
